New Alocasia Hybrid: Alocasia ‘Green Unicorn’(PP35,554)

Alocasia ‘Green Unicorn’ stands out from other plants with its iridescent, moody, dark green leaves and colorful dark red undersides that pop against glowing, light green petioles.  It is a vigorous, compact Alocasia that has the look of a rare gem but the hardiness of a common houseplant.

This Alocasia was created in 2021 by hybridizer Lindsay Sisti of @alltheplantbabies. It is cross between Alocasia azlanii and Alocasia baginda ‘Dragon Scale.’  The name ‘Green Unicorn’ was inspired from the term “unicorn” which is used throughout the houseplant collecting hobby to describe a beautiful, highly-sought after, uncommon plant. This plant is true to its name!

At full maturity, Alocasia ‘Green Unicorn’ reaches roughly 12 inches high and 20-22 inches wide.  It enjoys bright, indirect light and well-draining soil. This hardy plant can tolerate low humidity. Water the plant thoroughly when almost dry.
